Bret Contreras, PhD, CSCS,*D. I am the Glute Guy. I've been obsessed with the glutes for over 2 decades. As a matter of fact, I created this whole "Glute Niche." Most of my videos pertain to maximizing glute size and strength. However, I'm also very interested in strength training biomechanics and most topics in sports science. I'm an avid lifter (still setting PRs in my mid-40's and recently pulled 635 lbs beltless), personal trainer (I train the Glute Squad), author (3 books: Bodyweight Strength Training Anatomy, Strong Curves, and Glute Lab), published researcher (over 50 studies), and international speaker (over 70 conferences). I invented the barbell hip thrust in 2006 and have worked very hard to popularize it and it's numerous variants over the past 15 years. I'm the founder of Booty by Bret, BC Strength, Glute Lab, and Stronglifting.

Glute Band Workout: Influencers Take Note!
Bret seems to be defending the glute bridge somewhat dishonestly here, probably because he's got so much of his reputation and financial interest on the line with hip thrusts. He says that those that claim the quads are better trained in squats than in the hip thrust because muscles are better off getting trained at longer lengths claim that there is zero torque at the bottom of a hip thrust. Not true at all! No where near close to all people that make the former claim make the latter. He then says all the evidence based bros aren't going after lateral raises and bent over rear delt raises and also CONVENIENTLY (as if they have an agenda- paranoid much?) ignoring concentration curls, lateral raises (he said lateral raises already), and things of that nature. This is nonsense! Everyone jumping on the band wagon of being more aware of how much they're training muscles in the stretched position (and with good reason) are replacing exercises that are inferior in the stretched position with those that are superior to them, or at least adding more exercises in the stretched position. He is making it very obvious that he has a bias by not keeping it real here. He then goes on to say people would stop doing lateral raises with dumbbells and doing them lying on a bench if they really believed this (he thinks they're lying?). He then says to try them, you won't like them because they don't feel natural and feel silly. So what? If that's going to cause some to not do them, what does that have to do with squats as compared to hip thrusts? Squats don't feel unnatural at all! It's the most natural movement we perform since we've been toddlers. Ask people how natural and comfortable hip thrusts are including setting up for them. People ARE switching to alternatives to the standing lateral raise such as leaning towards the wall, using cables and the movement he says feels sill BECAUSE they want a better stretch at the beginning of the movement. His concluding rant is...well, judge for yourself: "In the meantime, let's see if these bros are consistent with their attack on exercise. Let's see if they go after the lateral raise and the bent-over rear delt. If they don't, it can mean only one thing- that they're massively jealous of the hip thrust's success."
Sad hoy comienso no tengo nada de nalgas 1question can i really make glutes without surgery 😔 mi novio says i have no butt or he said nalgitas meaning i have nada i want change my whole body my most i want change its my glutes i really want get volume thanks from Texas:Lorena 🦋
What gym is this ?
Thank you for addressing this! I have been lifting for 2 years and gone through bulking and cutting and i always go back and forth between wanting to shred and bulk but always end up losing strength on cuts and get too fluffy when i bulk. I’ll have a new goal to be excited about without starving all the time
Omg... brah the 2 women doing partner frog pumps is too much😅😂😂 I cant watch it without a pump in my frog 🐸, its just too much to see. Im Only human or frog
The best one absolutely, love this explanation love how you give for free all of these which is amazing, I'm really gonna use it with my clients
My leftie is a pancake and my rightie is ok. Regardless of what I do. Pray for my a$$

Those girls are badass!
13 years later.. how's your back doing?
I’m a builder, after day 2 of the program I had a fantastic day at work, light on my feet and muscles already lighting up at the age of 57
So I have THICK thighs naturally. I'm talking 26" waist two 22" hammocks! I avoided training my legs and instead focused on glutes for a long time. When I started finally training my legs, they shrank down to 19" and got nice and firm. I wished I had done this years ago!! My glutes also shrunk a bit, but nothing considerable.
How is 22" hammocks? I don't see how that's large...try 24"....when my thighs were 22" they were small and nothing I would call "hammocks". Personally 19" would be way too skinny to me.
@kay9156 I think it's about proportions. And since you have an opinion on my body. In my opinion, 24" (so a 2 foot) wide thigh is pretty huge. If you are a large person, maybe it would be proportional. On my small frame, it was not.
Excellent. I had never heard of the low grip landmine squat before. I can't wait to try it on my next leg day. Thank you boys.
Gracias ❤

Hi, where will I find the sports specific one? I like the sound of this
А есть какие-то чертежи или видео. Как собрать такой станок.
If the band breaks shes good, she has airbags.
I did but on the machine 😣
All TFL & piriformis. No glute at all here
I've been doing this at home 3 x week ( I'm 46 y/o 5'4 started at 125 lb, currently on week 9 eating good quality, at 129lb and I haven't seen this perkiness since I was 15 😂the weight went all to my jeans. Consistency & habits are everything👌
That second part…I need some heels to make it official
Would a reverse hyper machine come handy putting weight in these "frog reverse hypers"?
This is fascinating because it also extends to all muscles in general.
So are you training the inside glute w/out the strap, or the outer glute w/ the strap? Thanks!
LOL 😄!! I STILL have them, in spite of holding fat only in my butt and upper thighs (for my entire life)….. Gotta love those genes 🧬….. THANKS great-grandma, grandma, and Mom. 😀
Well, good morning works better than this. This is a great workout for warm up but can’t expect this to actually to trigger muscle building.
Eres un orgullo ❤
Great workout and not onerous. A routine that can be done daily as not too many exercises or repetitions of sets. Thanks Bret!😊
She got some major butt on top of that
dude that great!!! but how much did it cost ?
Very good instructions
I added this to the end one of my workouts and I was so sore!! It worked muscles I’ve never felt before. I love this exercise!❤
Hi all. Can someone help. I have tried to follow the video as best as I can but I only feel my thighs engaged I don’t feel anything like any kind of burn etc in my glutes. What am I doing wrong?
I actually find them cute 🥰 I don't know, I never had a problem with it .....bizarre
Amazingly effective tip for activation. Easy to implement, too. Probably also good for injury prevention in the low back.
What are the pads for?
This is wrong. There is nothing magical about compound exercises. Yes they are good if you don’t have the time. But saying that you get more hypertrophy in a certain muscle from compound vs isolation is just wrong. You spread out the load over several muscles. Which muscle reach failure. Like saying deadlift involves almost all muscle groups just train deadlift and you get jacked in all those muscles. It’s not only that, you also get a much higher systemic load to recover from.
Cable Cross Over vs Dips and Bench Press.
@@Han-nk3io Pullups vs Biceps curls.
@@Han-nk3io If you are after mostly pec growth and you get the technique right you will build big pecs with dumbbell flyes absolutely. You can have a big bench and get very big front shoulders and triceps and ok pecs.
@@Han-nk3io If you are after big triceps you will get much better results doing over head triceps extension with a big stretch in the bottom. For sure. Then doing just bench and dips.
@@ctcpcp idk man. Depends on the muscles. I only isolate my arms and calves/abs
👌👌👌
I'm so glad I came across your video as I've been seeing this movement starting to trend with "fitness influencers" but they've varied slightly in performing it. You've given such a good breakdown on how you developed the movement for the best form - THANK YOU 👏👏👏👏
Why take an advice from a guy that trained for 30 years and look like he dont lift...eat it sleep it breath it yet u dont have....phd or not...if u cant develop your own body ur not fit to give knowledge on the stuff...otherwise u just reading research paper n shouting i have phd in sports science...
How do you get the resistance band on the bottom around the smith machine or under
